Transgender couple to become parents - but it's dad who's pregnant

A TRANSGENDER couple are excitedly awaiting the arrival of a new baby - but it's the DAD who's pregnant.

Fernando Machado, 22, who used to be a woman, is now expecting a baby after transitioning to become a man.

Diana was shunned by her parents after telling them about her transition, but Fernando has been a major support CEN

Transgender man Fernando, from Venezuela, fell for trans woman Diane Rodriguez, 33, after meeting her on social media.

Fernando was supported by his family after telling them he wasn't comfortable as a woman, but Diane was rejected by her family when she told them about her transition.

Although distance initially kept the couple apart, Fernando flew from Venezuela to Ecuador to move in with Diane.

Soon after, it was revealed that Fernando was pregnant and they are now the first transgender pair in the country to have a baby.

The couple were able to conceive naturally as they both haven’t undertaken sex change surgery.

Diane Rodriguez said: “This was the wish of both of us and there was nothing biological or legal to stop us, so we decided to do it...

“The process to get here was complex for each of us. Knowing it’s our right, we decided to add another member to our family."

After announcing the pregnancy online, they received a mixed reaction.

Although there were many congratulatory comments, some internet users questioned whether raising a child in this unconventional family structure would be healthy.

The pair are undeterred by the criticism, both regularly campaigning and supporting others in the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans) community.
