ROBERTO MARTINEZ expects Gareth Barry to pass Ryan Giggs’ Premier League appearance record.
Barry, 34, is 52 games behind Manchester United legend Giggs and gave a midfield masterclass in his 580th at St James’ Park.
Everton snatched a win, which should have been sewn up long before Tom Cleverley’s 94th- minute header.
Boss Martinez says skipper Barry, who left Manchester City for nothing last summer, is his best-ever signing.
Ahead of today’s visit by Stoke, Martinez said: “Gareth is someone who from the outside maybe doesn’t get the attention — but inside we know what we’ve got.
“He is an incredible focal point of our team and just a calm influence who sets the highest standards I have seen in a footballer since I became a manager.
“He always leads by example and the players know he is someone very special.”
