The man, a fellow university student, was also beaten outside the mosque in Banda Aceh after the couple allegedly showed affectionate behaviour towards one another.
Nur Elita was frogmarched into the yard of the Baiturrahumim Mosque while a crowd of hundreds cheered as she was forced to her knees and savagely whipped five times with a cane by a masked man.
After the flogging she could be seen collapsed on the floor in agony before being carried off the stage to an ambulance and rushed to hospital.

He said: “Take these punishments as a lesson.
“What has been done by these convicts should not be taken as an example and I hope these canings today will be their last ever.”
The province is the only one in Indonesia which enforces Sharia Law which they introduced in 2003 after the central government granted it special autonomy status.
