It's official: One-night-stands are actually good for you

CASUAL sex can actually be good for your health and boost self-esteem, a new study has revealed.

Scientists from Cornell University and NYU found that those who indulged in a quickie had lower levels of depression and anxiety.

They also found that one night of passion can help boost self-esteem in contrast to the popular belief that it leaves people feeling low and worthless.

Researchers asked 371 US college students to keep a 12-week diary of their sexual encounters and how they felt afterwards.

According to researchers: “When it came to those who were sociosexually unrestricted, having casual sex was associated with higher self-esteem and life satisfaction and lower depression and anxiety.

“Typically, sociosexually unrestricted individuals reported lower distress and higher thriving following casual sex, suggesting that high sociosexuality may both buffer against any potentially harmful consequences of casual sex and allow access to its potential benefits.”

Scientists found that students with high "sociosexuality" didn't have a problem with casual sex outside of a relationship.

But surprisingly, the findings for both men and women were equal - meaning females also got a boost from the night of passion.

Another recent poll found that sex on a first date is becoming more common with 15 per cent of 18-24 year olds admitting to having sex after the first meeting.

A third of daters over the age of 45 also claim to have had intercourse after having met someone that evening.
