Diego Costa 'BITES' Everton’s Gareth Barry and is then sent off as Chelsea crash out of FA Cup

DIEGO COSTA embroiled himself in an almighty row after appearing to BITE Everton’s Gareth Barry in the club’s FA Cup clash.

The fiery Spanish international tangled with Toffees’ midfielder Barry, taking a theatrical dive before leaping to his feet and thrusting his head into the Englishman’s face.


And, in scenes reminiscent of another of the Premier League's tempestuous South Americans, Brazil-born Costa appeared to sink his teeth into Barry’s shoulder.
The former Atletico Madrid star, 27, saw red for a second yellow as the pair were both chastised by referee Michael Oliver for the latest episode in their on-the-pitch feud.

Barry and Costa’s running battle had been a theme of the FA Cup quarter-final at Goodison.

The latter’s first yellow had come following a a foul on the former England international.

Costa responded by spitting at the feet of whistleblower Oliver.
And, although Barry was to see red himself moments later for a seperate incident, Costa’s dismissal all but ended Chelsea’s hopes of overturning the Toffees’ 2-0 lead.

Romelu Lukaku's goal heroics had inspired Roberto Martinez's men to the Cup semi-final with a late brace.

The Belgian striker beat several Blues players for a brilliant first in the 78th minute.

And not content with the solitary strike, Lukaku thrashed the ball past Thibaut Courtois again four minutes later.

But the 22-year-old's heroics were overshadowed by the gamesmanship of Costa, who was given his marching orders barely moments later.

Alan Shearer had little time for the striker's antics, blasting: "I know we were laughing at half-time but it is tiresome.

"He spends too much time fighting and scrapping, you can’t do that every game because you turn the ref against you."
