Fake penis woman Gayle Neweland set for retrial after having conviction quashed

A WOMAN who was jailed after being accused of impersonating a man to trick her female friend into having sex with her has had her conviction quashed.
The Sun reports that Gayle Newland, 26, challenged her eight-year prison sentence and conviction after being accused of disguising her voice and using a fake dildo while having sex — with the matter now facing a retrial.
The woman, of Williaston, Cheshire, had her case heard by three judges at the Court of Appeal, considering the case after her conviction at the Chester Crown Court last year.

Newland is said to have disguised her appearance and voice as she persuaded her victim to wear a blindfold at all times when they met, was sentenced in November.
The court heard that Newland spun a web of lies to ensnare her victim, with the woman even using a fake Facebook profile to build a relationship with the other woman.
The previous trial heard that Newland told the other woman she had to wear a blindfold whenever they met as she was ashamed of her body due to cancer treatment.
The jury also heard that Newland was friends with the woman outside of the relationship, with the victim never realising the man and her friend were the same person
Newland had earlier been convicted by a jury of three counts of sexual assault.
The court heard that the pair had sex up to 10 times until the complainant decided to take her mask off and saw Newland wearing a prosthetic penis in the summer of 2013.
The court was further told that Newland used a swimsuit and bandages to hide certain parts of her body while using a woolly hat to hide her hair.
Marketing manager Newland said that her accuser always knew she was pretending to be a man because the pair was struggling with their sexuality.
She claimed that a blindfold was never used.
