Bill Goldberg cites interest in Brock Lesnar rematch, cops cheeky Twitter burn

AFTER a 12-year absence from the WWE, Bill Goldberg has announced his return.
The wrestling legend was challenged to a rematch with Brock Lesnar by Paul Heyman during an episode of Monday Night Raw earlier this week, and by the looks of his Twitter, he’s happy to oblige.
You’d be forgiven if you thought the 49-year-old was past his heyday — but Goldberg’s not-so-quietly confident he can ruffle some feathers in what could be one of the biggest bouts the WWE has ever seen.
In true trash-talking fashion Goldberg tweeted his interest in taking on the challenge directly after the show.
“Booking my flight to answer that big mouth (Paul Heyman)’s challenge next week in person on Monday Night Raw,” he said, while also adding the hashtags “Who’s next?” and “see ya there”.
He might have to recover from this swift jab to the guts from Heyman, though.
The WWE commentator tweeted saying the retired wrestler should consider rethinking his interest in fighting one of the biggest, baddest men in
wrestling.
“Dear (Bill Goldberg) — I respectfully suggest you don’t confuse the fantasy of #WWEgames with the reality of Brock Lesnar,” he tweeted, referencing WWE’s new 2017 video game featuring both Lesnar and Goldberg as playable characters.
Goldberg, while confident, has revealed he’s well aware of his ageing physique in an interview with Jonathan Coachman on Off The Top Rope.

“I’m an old man here. I’m 49 years old,” he said.
“A guy like Ric Flair at 49 could go out and do his character. A guy at 49 going out and doing Goldberg again — I don’t know what the odds are.
“I have a 10-year-old boy. I’ve got a wife who has never seen me wrestle, and I got a generation of kids who don’t know who the hell I am except for looking online.
“The biggest thing about being a wrestler, and being Goldberg gave me, was the ability to be a superhero for kids.
“I want the ability to be that guy again. But there’s a compromise here. To be that guy at 49 years old, do you risk losing your legacy? Is it something that I am going to regret?”
Goldberg admitted his relationship with the WWE has been shaky ever since he left after working with the franchise for a year in 2003.
“I haven’t had a word with Vince McMahon since I’ve left the business,” Goldberg said.
“He has done his thing very successfully, and I like to think that I have gone on my way and been fairly successful about my business. At the end of the day, I’m sure that he and I will speak sometime soon. I owe him a thankful handshake for giving me the ability to do this.”
On the topic of Brock Lesnar, Goldberg admitted it would be a daunting task to tackle the 130kg beast, but he isn’t ruling it out as impossible.
“I would be remiss in saying I don’t owe Brock Lesnar a rematch,” Goldberg said.
“I was able to prosper and have my hand raised at the first meeting, and I think if I ever came back, that’d be the match. I would have to work my ass off to get ready for him, but you never say never. I’ve said it for 12 years.
“Brock’s a different human being. Matter of fact, he’s probably not even a human being. He’s like a superhero alien guy — big, strong, fast and mean. But I don’t know, man, I beat him once.”
There is a burning desire among diehard wrestling fans to see Goldberg return to the ring nearly 20 years after his famous undefeated streak ended in WCW, and now he’s back on WWE Raw, another Goldberg match could be just around the corner.
