Safe at last! Starving 'witch child' boy in heartbreaking waterbottle photo pictured after rescue

Picture posted by Anja showing Hope looking a lot more healthy

THE starving toddler who was labelled a witch by villagers is making a miraculous recovery.

Images of the tot looking much healthier were recently posted on Facebook by the Danish aid worker who rescued him.

In the post Anja Ringgren Loven said he had gained weight and the next step in his recovery is talking.

She claims that Hope will be encouraged to talk by other children in the orphanage that he will join after being released from hospital.

Anja giving Hope some water

Hope was left for dead in a village in Nigeria after locals believed he was a witch.

Images of a severely malnourished Hope drinking water from Anja went viral earlier in February - the aid worker is the founder of the African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation which attempts to save 'witch children' and educate communities about the archaic belief.

It is a common occurrence for people to be called a witch with the parents often being the first to make the claim.

After a child is labelled they are often tortured or killed.

An earlier picture of Hope looking very unwell

When the organisation first found Hope Anja posted this message alongside the images: “Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children.

"This footage shows why I fight.

"Why I sold everything I own.

"Why I’m moving out in uncharted territory.

“I have chosen to call the boy Hope for right now, we all hope that he survives.”
