Health Issues

Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition that leads to abnormally high levels of sugar in the blood. People with type 1 diabetes cannot make sufficient amounts of insulin. People with type 2 diabetes usually make enough insulin initially, but their cells don't respond normally to insulin (called insulin resistance). Type 2 is much more common than type 1. Although they are caused by different processes, similar complications are experienced by both types.

Digestive System

The digestive system is made up of a series of body parts, starting at the mouth and ending at the anus. In addition, the digestive system also includes organs that produce chemicals needed for digestion (such as the liver and pancreas). Conditions affecting this system may be limited to one organ or multiple organs.

Eyes and Ears

The eyes and ears make up part of the sensory system of the body. They transmit visual, auditory, and positional information. Conditions affecting this system often decrease this ability, either from an intrinsic problem within the organ, or as a secondary consequence from another medical problem.

Heart, Blood Pressure, and Circulation

The heart, blood pressure, and circulation make up the cardiovascular system of the body. They work to pump and distribute blood to every cell. Conditions affecting this system often interrupt this delivery, either from problems with the heart or blood vessels.

Brain and Nerves

The brain and nerves make up the nervous system of the body. They deliver signals that allow the body to interpret information and execute actions. Conditions affecting this system often disrupt this communication, causing altered sensations and inability to carry out everyday tasks.

Bones, Joints, and Muscles

Bones, joints, muscles, and connective tissue make up the structural system of the body. Bones and joints serve as the scaffolding, while muscles and connective tissue fill in to give shape and function. Conditions affecting this system often involve weakened or inflamed components.
