Claudio Ranieri: Leicester City manager's inner steel

Claudio Ranieri

True to stereotype, the Italians are a superstitious bunch.

We have driven an hour north of Rome to meet Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri's brother Carlo and his son Giorgio. But as we get closer to Formello, suddenly our calls are not being answered.

We arrive in the picturesque hilltop town and wander the narrow cobbled streets. Still no answer.

Russia said that the American jet had turned off its transponder signal, which helps others identify it.
It is the second incident in the Baltic this month in which the US has accused Russian planes of flying aggressively.

Papa Wemba on stage during his final performance
Tributes have been pouring in for Congolese musician Papa Wemba who died on Sunday morning after collapsing on stage. African music expert Rita Ray looks at what made him so influential.
Papa Wemba, or Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba, was rebellious, prolific, a style icon, at times notorious and always innovative, who was well known as one of the pioneers of modern Congolese soukous music.
But he was very clear about how he wanted to be remembered, according to the sleeve notes from his 1995 album Emotion.

Horror: Rejected suitor butchers MTN worker, stabs victim’s mother

The tragic incident of Sunday, April 24, was one that the family of Ashinwo, did not see coming.

Had a prophet told Oluwatosin, her siblings and their widow mother, of the danger that lurked around the corner that day, it is unlikely they would have believed it.

In fact, months after they all knew 45-year-old David Ogundele, an engineer, who was deeply obsessed with 30-year-old Oluwatosin, they had no idea they had a killer on their hands.
But it is late to regret; Oluwatosin is dead after being stabbed multiple times by Ogundele along with her mother, who was trying to ward off the attack on her daughter in a flat she rented at Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Humiliated abroad, rejected at home: Pathetic, painful world of Nigeria’s deportees

Seated on a fragile-looking plastic chair, metres away from where a handful young men treated themselves to cold bottles of beer and spicy, peppered meat enticingly heaped on a ceramic plate, LA, as he is fondly known around his Shitta, Surulere,  neighbourhood, a sprawling suburb in the heart of Lagos, was completely cut off from the realities around him that sunny Tuesday afternoon. Decked in a long-sleeved khaki shirt, a pair of black chino trousers dotted with cream coloured butterfly design and a brown suede boot to complement – about the best in his wardrobe at the moment – the compelling aroma of the delicacy and the tempting sight of chilled liquor yards away was not enough to arrest his attention – he was deeply lost in thought. At 53, life has dealt the Kwara State-born several deadly blows, inflicting on him, sharp, excruciating wounds in the process.

Why no surprise? Because relationship research shows a whopping 90% of couples have a second go. Yep, it might be one drunken fumble when they’re both lonely. Or the whole shebang - moving back in together with high hopes.

'Secret' of youthful looks in ginger gene

Red hair
Scientists say they have made a leap in knowing why some people retain their youthful looks while others age badly.
They found the first part of human DNA - the genetic code - that seems to affect how old people look to others.
The mutations, reported in the journal Current Biology, were in the genetic instructions for protecting the body from UV radiation.
But these can also lead to red hair, and experts caution the findings may be confused by eye, skin or hair colour.

The duo share a pair of legs, with Pin having control of one and Pan controlling the other, and have learned to walk, dress, eat - and, incredibly, even ride a tricycle - as one.

Nigeria or North?

By Yinka Odumakin  “I belong  to everybody and I belong to nobody” -President Muhammadu Buhari in his inauguration speech on May 29, 2015. THE words of President Muhammadu Buhari above remains his best lines to a badly divided country till date. They were reassuring to segments of Nigeria already feeling alienated by the negative triumphalism of some scions of the far North following the outcome of the March 28 elections which I captured in “Arewa songs of conquest.” The comforting words of Mr. President calmed not a few nerves who were apprehensive that Arewa

The most shocking lyrics from Beyonce’s new album Lemonade

Both Blue Ivy and Jay Z make brief appearances in the film.
WHEN Beyonce dropped her bold, politically charged new single Formation back in February, many speculated the album to follow would be similarly concerned with issues affecting the world at large.
As it turns out, Lemonade — both the album and its accompanying hour-long film — is largely concerned with matters closer to home.
Ever since the infamous ‘elevator incident’ of 2014, when Bey’s sister Solange was caught on security cameras savagely attacking Jay Z while Beyonce coolly looked on, many have wondered if cracks were appearing in the power couple’s relationship.

Was Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ a terrible mistake?

EXTREMELY famous people do things differently to the rest of us.
They are human, so they still laugh, love, cry, get their hearts broken, cheat, get cheated on, get ill and even die (as hard as that is to process). But they live in the spotlight, under constant scrutiny, so the way these experiences are played out are very different to our own.
I’ve been watching the fallout from Beyonce’s new album Lemonade with fascination. For those who have been hiding under a rock the last couple of days, the entire album is an account of Jay Z’s extramarital affair, detailing her shock, her rage, her eventual acceptance, and her insistence on better behaviour in the future.

Children dropping out of school under Buhari – Gulak

Leke Baiyewu and Bayo Akinloye

A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Ahmed Gulak, has said that under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari, children were dropping out of schools due to the economic hardship the country faces.

In an interview with our correspondents, Gulak stated that President Buhari and his political party, the All Progressives Congress, had failed to live up to people’s expectation.
“If our country is attractive to investors, they will rush into the country; we don’t have to go out to look for them. But, be that as it may, Mr. President has been advised to go out there and woo investors, by going to China, Dubai, Qatar, United States and the United Kingdom. The world is a global village today; (all countries are) intertwined. I think Mr. President should stay at home and address the issues confronting his people.

What is your view on the state of the country?

The state of the country now is a bit volatile. Don’t forget that a very strong political party was voted out of power last year, so naturally, the tension is still there. But my attitude to it is that the tension can be tackled by the government. There is nothing happening in Nigeria that has not happened elsewhere. In fact, we have had worse situations. In South Africa, Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years and when he came out of prison, he could have prolonged the disunity and the tension but he was smart enough to know that the only thing that could bring about progress in a nation is an
