Police nab four kidnap suspects in Abia

OPERATIVES of the Abia State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered a light assault rifle from them.

It was gathered that their arrest followed a tip-off received by the Monitoring Unit of the Command from some well-meaning Nigerians.

The security operatives were informed that some men suspected to be kidnappers lodged one Samcity Hotel located in Umunkama village, Ugwunagbor Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that policemen in the unit moved in and arrested the suspects, including Sunday Onuoha and Godswill Onwukwe, who are residents of Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

The two other suspects identified as Onyekachi Samuel and Chimezie Ezeigbo hail from Ebonyi State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ezekiel Odeviotu, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to Southern City News.

Odeviotu told our correspondent that further investigation of the suspects led to the recovery of one light assault rifle.

According to the state police spokesman, the suspects are helping the police in their investigation about their operation in the state.

Odeviotu warned armed robbers and kidnappers operating anywhere in the state to relocate as the Command would leave no stone unturned in making Abia a crime-free state.

“We got information that some of the people lodging in a hotel within the area were criminals and we informed our men of the presence of some suspected criminals in the hotel. They (our men) moved in to find out who they were.

“When our men got to the hotel, the suspects claimed to be businessmen, who came to buy palm products in the village. But when they were asked to name their customers, they could not mention any person.

“So, the police went and searched the hotel room they (suspects) were lodging and discovered a light assault rifle,” the state police spokesman said.
