A LEADING expert into the murder of superstar rapper Tupac Shakur believes he may have been assassinated in hospital before he could name his killers.
Michael Douglas Carlin's amazing theory comes as he revealed Tupac wasn't even the real target of the notorious 1996 Las Vegas shooting.
He now wants US cops to re-open the murder case.
Carlin - author of Tupac 187 - is recognised as one of the world's leading expert's on the murders of Tupac and his friend- turned-rival the Notorious B.I.G.
Carlin worked closely with the LAPD detective who led the investigation into the murders Russell Poole.
In a new interview with Clank TV, he claims: "I am not sure whether he died because of the shooting or he died because someone did something to him in hospital.

"He was supposed to make a recovery and all of a sudden he takes a turn for the worse. There could have been a number of people who didn't want Tupac to come through and realise who shot him."
Tupac was gunned down as he cruised through Las Vegas in a BMW with Death Row Records owner Marion 'Suge' Knight.
A white Cadiallac pulled alongside their vehicle and a man opened fire with a 40-calibre Glock handgun.
Tupac was hit four times in the chest, in the arm and the thigh. One bullet went through his right lung.
Despite his shocking injuries Tupac survived the attempt on his life and was rushed to the nearby University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.
Tupac's friends were so sure that his attackers were coming back to finish him off, members of his group Outlawz stood armed guard over his bed.
According to official reports he died six days later of respiratory failure caused by his injuries.
But Carlin belives many of the official police and medical records surrounding the star's death are bogus.
He said: "The people behind his murder wanted to make sure no one would ever be tried for the crime."
As for who ordered the hit on Tupac, Carlin has his own well-researched theory.
He believes rivals wanted to take over the record label which had made Shakur an international superstar - by any means.
He said: "At the time Death Row Records was worth $500,000,000. The shooters wanted Suge Knight. Tupac was a bonus because he had 200 unreleased track in Death Row's vaults."
Carlin says officers should look into his claims but knows why they are reluctant to open the case.
"Tupac was hated by law enforcement. His lyrics urged people to point guns at cops," he said.
"One Las Vegas police officer said to me why should we investigate the murder of a man who when asked who had shot him said to the officer 'f*** you'?
Death Row Records was eventually sold for $24m after the company and Knight filled for bankruptcy in 2006.
